Music Washes Away...(M56)

This is actually a framed picture, but could be made a bit smaller into a card
  1. Cut dark pink cardstock to 8 1/2" x 6 1/2" and ink edges with black ink
  2. Cut black cardstock 8" x 6" and attach
  3. Computer generate music score using dark pink notes, and print on white text paper
  4. Sponge entire piece with pink chalk, and use just a bit of brown chalk around the edges to tone down the pink - spray with matt fixative
  5. Tape the music score to the black cardstock and sew around all four edges of piece
  6. Rub thread with pink chalk
  7. Layer 4 1/4" x 3 1/4" black cardstock to 4 1/2" x 4" dark pink cardstock
  8. Computer generate Music word art on vellum (approx. 4" x 3 1/2") and tear bottom edge
  9. Ink edges with black, brush with pink chalk, and attach to small piece
  10. Sew around all 4 edges and rub thread with pink chalk
  11. Tie black polka-dot ribbon in a knot and attach to large piece with red liner tape, attaching ends around the back
  12. Tape vellum piece to card with the bottom edge just overlapping the ribbon
  13. Lightly sponge two silk flowers with pink chalk and attach to piece with black brads
  14. Attach to 11" x 8 1/2" black matt board
  15. Paint wooden frame with black acrylic and lightly sand in a few places

Music score clip art; Word Art created by me

I was asked to create this design for a guy, so I substituted purchased music scrapbook paper and used brown, rather than pink mats. I tied the ribbon a bit differently, and used a clay G-cleff charm instead of the flowers.

Happy Definitions (M57Q)

  1. Cut a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of pink polka-dot paper. Set aside.
  2. Computer generate definitions, using Kids font, and print on white cardstock with a black border around each
  3. Trim closely, ink edges, and attach to a contrasting color mat, leaving additional room to the left of each mat for the flower
  4. Tape definitions to the polka-dot paper
  5. Sponge ink onto the flower and attach to definition with a matching brad
  6. Sponge edges of a white 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white card with each of the 4 colors used
  7. Attach piece with 4 pink eyelets

You can use purchased definitions, or go to dictionary.com, type in the words you want to use, and copy the simplest definition.

Teacher (M70S)

  1. Cut cardstock 11" x 5 1/2" and mark 2 3/4" in from each edge. Fold each edge toward the middle until they meet (I had to do a little trimming after I folded to make it come out right)
  2. Cover left front with text school paper and cover right front with plain school paper
  3. Print portion of ruler and attach to top right
  4. Print A+ using Artistamp Medium font on white cardstock. Glue to cardboard, cut around letter and symbol, and distress with ink
  5. Attach to bottom right of card
  6. Print "Teacher" using Punch Label Font, cut out and attach below A+
  7. Insert a red eyelet on each side of front
  8. Push a piece of gingham ribbon through eyelet and tie in a knot on the inside
  9. Print quote using GF Halda font on beige cardstock, ink to distress, and mat to dark red cardstock
  10. Attach quote to top left, overlapping the fold
  11. Glue "Teach" charm to a vellum tag and attach to one end of ribbon with a jump ring
  12. Tie ribbon to close card

Credits: School Paper (Dyan Cross) (I used Brent Boone Heartitude Paper 4 as the base, then drew the straight and dotted lines in blue. I added the text in Artistamp medium font, and reduced the opacity on the layer so the text wouldn't be so bold. I closed off the text layers to print the plain paper.)

This was copied from a card by Kathleen Paneitz in The Joy of Cardmaking. I did make a few changes but my card is very close.

Black & White Happy Birthday (M71Q)

  1. I opened a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" image in Paint Shop Pro, filled with black, and used a flourish brush to "stamp" the design at the top right. (I actually trimmed the graphic before printing so I wouldn't waste all that black ink). You can stamp a flourish or use a rub on onto black paper or cardstock.
  2. Cut black and white decorative paper in a semi-circle and attach to left side of card
  3. To make the Happy Birthday label holder, I colored a digital label holder green, typed "Happy Birthday" and printed on photo paper. I filled the center with Glossy Accents, and when dry, cut out the piece and attached to the card with black brads. (Of course you can use a purchased metal label holder)
  4. Attach white flowers with black and lime green brads along seam

Celebrate (M73S)

  1. Create (or purchase) striped paper and print a 5 1/4" x 3" rectangle
  2. I used a Paint Shop Pro brush to add the "celebrate" text to a rectangle of light blue and printed on text paper. You can use a rub on or sticker if you don't do digital
  3. Fold dark blue cardstock to make a 5 1/2" square card, and attach striped paper to the top and solid paper to the bottom.
  4. Cut a strip of white cardstock, and a thin strip of dark blue and attach across the center of the card, hiding the seam
  5. Mat plane clip art to light blue, then dark blue cardstock
  6. Cut a circle of dark blue (I used a penny to trace), cut in half, and attach one half to each side
  7. Insert a white eyelet in each piece
  8. Attach clip art to card with foam tape
  9. Draw around card and clip art piece with a white gel pen to resemble stitching

Based on a card by Lindsey Botkin in Paper Crafts magazine

First Communion (M62Q)

  1. Fold dark blue cardstock into a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card
  2. Cut 4 pieces of complimentary cardstock and attach to card as shown, leaving a border around the edge and between each piece
  3. Print Communion clip art on textured heavy white cardstock, trim, and layer to dark blue cardstock
  4. Print "1st Holy Communion" on vellum, tear edges and attach with blue eyelets
  5. Glue two small yellow tiles in top right corner
  6. Attach Communion piece with foam tape

    Stamps: None - clip art
