Embellishments Cut From Clay

Rather than using molds, the following items are cut from flat clay using tiny clay cutters or an exacto knife

Buttons Cut from Clay

  1. Flatten Sculpey clay and cut any size circle or square with clay cutter (or cookie cutter)
  2. Poke two or four holes in button with a skewer or toothpick
  3. Texturize button if desired. Following are a few suggestions
    • Press any stamp into clay to leave a design
    • I've pressed the sleeve of my sweatshirt to leave a nice ribbed pattern
    • Use a clay texturizing sheet or any household item
  4. You can use any color clay, or white to make the buttons. If using white, you can color the button before or after baking by:
    • Lightly sponge with pigment or dye ink
    • Rub with any color Rub n' Buff
    • Dab Pearl-Ex on button (this looks great with translucent clay)
  5. Bake according to directions and let cool

The first two cards below used clay buttons with embroidery thread tied through them. The scrapbook layout used a bunch of different clay buttons glued to the decorative paper.

Frames Cut from Clay

  1. Cut square from black clay using clay cutter.
  2. Cut smaller square from center with cutter
  3. Press decorative rubber stamp into clay (wipe with damp towel first)
  4. Use gold or silver leafing pen or Rub n'Buff to cover high parts of the image, leaving some of the black clay showing through.
  5. Bake according to directions.

Pictures to the left show a completed gold and silver frame, and a card using the gold frame.

Clay "Mosaics"

  1. Cut squares from clay using clay cutters or an exacto knife
  2. Sponge with pigment ink before or after baking
  3. Bake according to directions
  4. Squirt some Glossy Accents on top and let dry completely

Pictures to the left show a close up of the mosaic tiles (I don't have a larger picture), and the tiles used on a scrapbook page.

Rubber Stamp Into or Onto Clay

There are several ways to use rubber stamps with clay:
  1. Ink the stamp and stamp lightly onto clay, transferring the ink but not leaving an impression
  2. Stamp into the clay, leaving an impression (wipe stamp with a damp towel first). Your stamp can be inked or not
  3. Use a portion of a rubber stamp to make a design in the clay, such as the small frames above

    Stamp Onto Clay

Pyramid stamp inked with black Memories ink and stamped onto gold clay. Edges were torn, some rolled a little, and baked

    Stamp Into Clay

Column stamp pressed, uninked, into white clay. Cut around top of one image and tore bottom. Tore second image in half to look like fragment. Rubbed both with gold Rub n'Buff after baking

    Description of images to left:

    1. Love tags: Cut small tag shapes from white clay and impress with L-O-V-E stamps. Bake and rub with gold Rub n'Buff
    2. Music Note piece: Flatten a small circle of copper clay and run a musical note roller stamp over it several times. Rub top with gold Pearl-ex and bake.
    3. Small Frames: described above
    4. Postal stamp: Impress stamp into gold clay. Bake.
    5. Pottery Shard: Press writing stamp into white clay and tear into pieces. Rub top with gold Pearl-ex and bake
    6. Dream: Stamp D-R-E-A-M into small piece of clay and sponge top with black pigment ink. Bake and when cool, cover with Glossy Accents

Here are a few cards using these embellishments
