Backgrounds/Paper - Page 3

"Blinds" Brush Paper

  • Open a blank image
  • Fill with lime for the first example, and beige for the second example (or any color)
  • Click with the "blinded 001" brush several times, using a contrasting color (I used beige for the lime, and grey for the beige)

You can click once to add the blinds, or click and drag across the page - each will give you a slight variation.

I don't know who makes this brush, but a similar effect can be produced using Blinds under Texture Effects in Paint Shop Pro. This gives you a more even look, but if you add a layer and use a grunge brush in a beige or white color, you can simulate this look.

Linen Paper

  • Open a blank image
  • Fill the paper with a solid color.
  • Choose a color slightly lighter and slightly darker for your highlights.
  • Choose the PB Grunge 3-008 Brush and drag the mouse across the paper several times, and down several times, using the light color
  • Repeat, using the dark color (motion I used was kind of like rubbing with sandpaper)

This is a time to think outside the box. The brush I used is shown to the left - not the typical choice for doing a background but it worked very well.

Teal Paper

  • Open a blank image
  • Fill with a solid teal color and add a layer
  • Use the checked brush several times in a shade lighter than the teal
  • Lower the opacity
  • Use a leaf brush in the same color, adding randomly on the paper
  • Use a text brush in a darker color.

Wavy Fern Paper

The wavy pattern brush I used is only 250 pixels square. My paper is 3600 pixels square. If I tried to fill my paper with that brush, the image would be very fuzzy, so I first created a pattern with the wavy brush, and used that to fill my large image.

    Pattern:
  • Open a blank image 250 pixels square
  • Set your background color to sage green (or whatever you wish), and apply Decorative TSl wavy brush. This will be the pattern you use to fill your paper.

    Paper
  • Open another blank image, 300 dpi, that is 3 times the size of the finished paper you want (if you want paper that is 12" wide, open an image that is 3600 pixels square)
  • Set your Foreground to Pattern, and use the wavy pattern that you just created as the source
  • Fill your paper
  • Set your Foreground to solid white or cream
  • Add a layer, choose the Feuillage1 brush and apply several times on the paper, letting some of the images go off the edges
  • Add a layer, change the rotation of the brush and apply again
  • Add a layer, change the size of the brush and fill in some of the empty spaces
  • If the white ferns are too bright, lower the opacity on those layers
